Age UK gets behind energy bill campaign
A new campaign has been launched in a bid to support people at risk of falling behind with their energy bill payments.
Consumer Focus and Citizens Advice are among the organisations behind the new Plug the Debt campaign, in addition to Age UK and Ofgem.
According to the campaign group, in the spring of this year, around 25% more consumers faced new electricity debts, while the number facing new gas debts went up by a fifth.
At present, it is thought that over 850,000 electricity customers have to contend with energy debts.
Consumer Focus chief executive Mike O'Connor stated that even more people could face debts as the winter period gets underway.
He added: 'We want people to know that help is out there. Your supplier has to help you if you have problems affording your bills and there are discounts and grants available to help you lower your costs.'
