Nazi symbol bans
- In Germany, the use of symbols of unconstitutional organisations - such as the Nazi swastika - is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years, or a fine
- The public use and dissemination of racist symbols is forbidden. However, a clause states that the display of offensive symbols is only banned when they are used to promote a corresponding ideology
- In France, it is illegal to display Nazi flags, uniforms and insignia in public, unless for the purpose of a historical film, show or exhibition
- In 2005, the EU dropped proposals to ban Nazi symbols when it became clear that member states couldn't agree which symbols to outlaw
