About The Sunday Times Social List
Most of us will never make it onto The Sunday Times Rich List but there's more than one way to be wealthy.
The Sunday Times Social List determines your wealth, not by how much money you make but by how rich you are socially. It does this by taking a look at your social networking activity and how much interest it generates amongst your friends and colleagues. It then uses this information to work out your worth and your place on the list.
To do this it only takes into account your online activity and not the actual content of this activity. In other words we can't actually see your photos or read your comments, we only know that you have made them. Likewise, when someone comments on your activity we don't know what they've said, we only know that your activity has generated interest and reward you for it.
So how does it work?
The Sunday Times Social List draws information from the four biggest social networks - Foursquare, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. All you have to do to sign up is enter the details you would normally use to log into any of these networks.
Once a day the system counts up your social networking activity (as well as your friends and colleagues' responses to it) and assigns points to each interaction. The more you do and the more interactions you have, the more socially wealthy you'll become.
Because the system measures activity there is no specific advantage to being signed up to multiple networks. It all depends on how much you use them.
Results
Every morning The Sunday Times Social List makes its calculations. The results will change daily as new people join and scores are updated.
On the results page you can see a list of the top 2000 most socially wealthy people at any given time. You can also see how you compare with friends and colleagues who have signed up.
You can share your results through the networks you're on and invite your friends to sign up.
Remember, the more active you are, the higher you'll climb on the list.
Social List badges
To help you to see where you are in the grand scheme of things, you are given a rank when you join and a badge that goes with it. This will change from 'Fledgling' to 'Titan' over time, depending on how well you're doing.
You share your rank and badge on Facebook and LinkedIn when you share your results.
Remember, because your online activity varies and because new people are signing up all the time, your position will change almost every day.
Don't forget to return to the site from time to time to see how you're doing.
