Whitney Houston had large entourage in Beverly Hills, police say
Whitney Houston had a large entourage of friends and family with her in Beverly Hills on the afternoon she was found dead at the Beverly Hilton hotel, police said.
"She had quite an entourage upstairs. She is here with family, friends and co-workers," Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen told KTLA News.
Rosen said that he didn't know who called paramedics but that members of her entourage were able to identify her after she was pronounced dead.
Paramedics found Houston unresponsive and performed CPR for about 20 minutes before the pop star was declared dead.
Authorities said that they did not yet have have a cause of death but that there were no signs of foul play.

The Beverly Hills Fire Department said it was called to the hotel about 3:30 p.m. and Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.
Houston, 48, was in the Los Angeles area for a musical tribute for music executive Clive Davis and had performed earlier this week.
Houston was planning to attend Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party Saturday at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
Earlier this week, the 79-year-old Davis perused page after page of guest lists in a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he conducts business when he’s in the Los Angeles area.
Among those Houston was expected to rub elbows with were Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Akon, Cee Lo Green, Miley Cyrus, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Jennifer Hudson, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello and Diana Krall.
“It’s a great time where everybody can set down their swords, so to speak,” Davis said, seated on an overstuffed divan next to a coffee table cluttered with papers, CDs and videos. “I was grateful that, inviting them to my home, that they would feel comfortable and just keep coming back, and they've kept coming back every year to where it's expanded to be this incredible haven for musicians.”
Houston had drug and alcohol problems for years, and in May her spokeswoman said she was going back to rehab.
Publicist Kristen Foster told the Associated Press on Saturday that Houston had died but did not provide further details.
Houston was known for such hits as “How Will I Know,” “Saving All My Love for You” and “I Will Always Love You.” She also starred in movies such as “The Bodyguard.”

Whitney Houston's death: Hotel guests stunned at news
Guests arriving for a pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday night were abuzz with the news of the death of Whitney Houston, who died earlier in her room at the hotel.
“Everybody is talking about it; the mood has changed from excited about the party to sadness,” said Carolyn Blazer, a guest who frequently travels with her family from Colorado to Los Angeles during Grammy weekend. She said they always stay at the hotel because they like to see all the celebrities who attend music mogul Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party.
Houston, 48, was among the performers planning to attend Davis' party along with Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Jennifer Hudson, Diana Krall and others.

Blazer said she had just returned from a trip downtown Saturday afternoon when she saw an ambulance parked outside the main entrance of the Wilshire Boulevard hotel. She said another hotel guest told her that Houston’s room was apparently on the fourth floor because part of the floor was cordoned off by emergency personnel.
Julia O’Reilly, another hotel guest who was in the lobby area directly across the entrance to the International Ballroom, where music could be heard coming from inside as guests trickled into the party, said she had just returned to the hotel an hour earlier and heard the news.
“I hope she didn’t do anything crazy,” she said of Houston. “Nobody here is showing any feelings or sadness. But the best actors and singers always say the show must go on.”
Friends found Houston in her hotel room about 3:30 p.m. and immediately called 911, said sources, who asked to remain anonymous because the investigation is ongoing. Arriving emergency medical personnel found the singer unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead shortly before 4 p.m.
