Kaiser Chiefs support Alzheimer's Society with the launch of their new album
Published 3 June 2011
Today for the first time music lovers can download their own version of the new Kaiser Chiefs album, while supporting Alzheimer's Society.
The band's first album in four years is being released in a unique way, allowing people to design their own album by choosing and downloading 10 songs from 20 new tracks via the Kaiser Chiefs' official website, www.kaiserchiefs.com. Celebrities will also be creating their own versions of the album on the website, which will be available to download by all music fans. Every time a celebrity version of the album is downloaded, £1 of the £7.50 cost will be donated to Alzheimer's Society. The first celebrity version confirmed is The Guardian's version of the album.
Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer's Society, said:
'We're thrilled that the Kaiser Chiefs have chosen to support us in this exciting way. We'd like to call on music fans to download a unique celebrity version of the album, and raise funds for people with dementia at the same time.
'Simply by downloading a celebrity Kaiser Chiefs album, you can help Alzheimer's Society support people to live well with dementia today and fund vital research to find a cure for tomorrow. In just 10 years, a million people will be living with the condition. As a nation we must gear up to tackle this challenge.'
Norm Mcnamara, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in September 2008 at the age of 50. Norm regularly contributes to Talking Point, Alzheimer's Society's online forum for people with dementia and their families and carers. Norm said:
'There are 750,000 people like me who are living with dementia around the country. I know from personal experience that with the right support it is possible to live well with the condition. Alzheimer's Society needs all our help to continue running the essential services it provides. Talking Point is a 24-hour support network and it can be such a lifeline to people like me and my wife Elaine. Downloading an album is such an easy and quick way to help.'
