Francis Maude today announced the abolition of 192 quangos with a further 118 to be merged. It’s thought thousands of jobs will go, but when pressed Maude refused to give any indication of how many people will be made redundant or how much money is likely to be saved. No doubt because once contracts have been negotiated, and pension and redundancy packages paid, the savings are all but likely to disappear in a puff of smoke.
