Synapse Apps was formed by two practicing speech and language therapists who have worked in a wide range of therapeutic environments. The idea behind PocketSLP came to them when considering the problems they had keeping the attention of children while using traditional card decks or other illustrations for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.

They noticed that their own infant children were quite captivated with their iPod Touch devices and found that even the very young ones could manipulate and navigate the applications. They began experimenting with some flash card applications and were astonished at the response. Children that prior to using the Touch would scarcely sit still for more than a minute using cards, would stay engaged for an entire session when using the Touch.

Thus, the PocketSLP idea was born, opening up entirely new opportunities for working with children and adults alike.

Synapse Apps was formed in 2009 under a business incubation program by the Walker Entrepreneurial Group.  The Walker Entrepreneurial Group has several businesses under its incubation wing and continues to support the entrepreneurial efforts of Synapse Apps.
