To have sweet dreams we must first start with reducing or eliminating stress in order to get a good nights sleep. According to the Better Sleep Council, 65% of Americans are losing sleep due to stress. Eliminating stress may be hard to do. But we can do something -- we can create a sleeping environment or sanctuary that is luxurious, comfortable, and quiet, which can be very helpful in enabling those sweet dreams we all desire.
Did you know that May is Better Sleep Month? I didn't either, but sleepbetter.org gives great tips and articles to help reach that perfect sleep. Perhaps it is time to consider the age of the mattress and pillows. A mattress after 5-7 years no longer provides the comfort and support it did originally. We all seem to have a love affair with our pillows, but we should realize it may be time for a change as well. A pillow should be replaced every 18 to 24 months. Of course, it goes without saying that we must sleep in all-cotton sheets with a high threadcount for that luxurious feeling on our skin.
Changing the mattress, pillows and linens are practical suggestions, but now for the fun part. Choose a bed for your sanctuary that makes a statement about your personality... A bed that you can't wait to get into... A bed that makes you feel like royalty... A bed like this would certainly make you sleep better.
An example of a statement bed is this masculine, Tuscan style bed with handsome hand carved details. With an Aged Regency finish, leather and antique finished hammered brass accents complete the look. Perhaps it will have you dreaming of fields of poppies under the warm Tuscan sun.
If transitional is more your style, this bed has the look of world travels with rattan and crushed bamboo also with leather insets.
A Moraccan influence is seen in this Black Vendome finished four poster bed with hand-carved spindles. A small bit of brass adds the finishing touch.Update your linens, have a warm bath, drink your nightcap and crawl into the bed of your dreams in your very own special sleep sanctuary. How can you help but have sweet dreams?
