Location: Los Angeles Film School, 6363 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California

Date: March 17-19, 2011

Women's Voices From the Muslim World: A Short-Film Festival has selected 98 short-films from over 200 submissions originating in 40 countries including Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan and Tunisia.  This unique and important collection of documentary, fiction, student and experimental films is focused on the rights of women of all faiths and backgrounds living in Muslim-majority countries and Muslim women living as minorities around the globe.

On March 17-19, 2011 the Festival kicks off with 8 screenings over a 3-day event including "Afghanistan: Films in a Suitcase" titled for the fact that many of our Afghan films had to be walked out of the country; "Love, Sex and Other Dangerous Pursuits" introducing a fascinating juxtaposition between softness and darkness; and "The Woman Warrior" embodying the Festival mantra of introducing images of the Heroin to the traditional discussion of the female victim. Each screening is followed by Roundtable discussions providing further insight and context into the films. See full schedule and esteemed speakers list at http://www.womensvoicesnow.org/events.

Saturday, March 19, 11AM - 12:30PM: Screening of Girls in the Muslim World, followed by a roundtable discussion with Brooke Goldstein, Founder and Director of CRI, and Ferial Masry, democratic candidate for California's 37th Assembly District in 2010.

Tickets: Screening is FREE
