18 year old Amina Said and her sister Sarah, 17, were found shot dead in a taxi outside a hotel in Dallas, Texas on New Years Day 2008.

Gail Gattrell, the sisters’ great-aunt, has called the deaths an “honour killing.”

Police found Amina and Sarah after one of the girls called 911 from her phone and said she was dying. Their father Yaser Said has not been seen since the teenagers were found dead and is thought to have fled back to his home country Egypt.

Yaser already had a police record for threatening to hurt one of the girls for dating a non-Muslim boy.  Also, 10 years before the deaths of the Said sisters, Amina and Sarah had accused their father of sexual abuse. At ages 8 and 9, the allegations were reported to the Hill County Sherrif’s Office. Their mother swore in an affidavit that the allegations were true.

Although she ran away with her girls, the mother Patricia Said took the girls to see their dad the day he shot them. She has kept a low profile since their deaths and her son Islam has publicly said his dad didn’t pull the trigger on his sisters, they did it to themselves.
