110 Celebrities Including Steve Carell, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Peyton Manning, Mitchel Musso and Holly Robinson Peete Rally to Raise Money for Autism by Building the World's Largest Digital Puzzle
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - October 28, 2010) - Autism Speaks™, North America's largest autism science and advocacy organization, today announced the launch of Puzzlebuilder, the first-of-its-kind social network driven fundraising campaign that enables people of all ages to help solve the puzzle of autism -- the fastest-growing serious developmental disorder in the U.S. Anyone can become a Puzzlebuilder by uploading their favorite photos to create their own digital puzzle or by buying a piece of a participating celebrity, friend or family member's puzzle. Each puzzle piece is $10 and all funds benefit Autism Speaks. The campaign launches October 28, 2010 and will run through the end of the year.
To show support for the one in 110 children, one in 70 boys, struggling with autism spectrum disorders, 110 of Hollywood's brightest stars, television personalities, musicians and professional athletes -- including Steve Carell, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Peyton Manning, Mitchel Musso and Holly Robinson Peete -- have signed on to help Autism Speaks create the world's largest digital puzzle by uploading their own photo. The star's individual puzzle pieces can be seen online at www.autismspeaks.org/puzzle.
"Millions of people participate in social network communities every day and Puzzlebuilder is a fun and engaging way for them to raise money and help drive awareness of autism," says Kai MacMahon, Director of Online Fundraising for Autism Speaks. "The tremendous amount of celebrity participation and support we've received is incredibly exciting. It's very unique for fans to be able to join their favorite actor, musician or athlete as a fellow fundraiser -- not to mention have their photo appear next to theirs."
The public can upload photos through their Facebook accounts or by creating a new account on Puzzlebuilder at www.autismspeaks.org/puzzle. Each digital puzzle is comprised of 20 pieces which can be purchased for $10 each. Puzzlebuilders can easily promote their digital puzzle to their network via email, Facebook and Twitter. Every completed puzzle will be featured in the Puzzlebuilder online gallery. A demonstration how-to video is available at http://www.autismspeaks.org/pbvideo.
Mitchel Musso, one of the most successful actors/musicians of the new generation, and one of the youngest voices in the all-star Puzzlebuilder lineup, is encouraging other kids and teens to become Puzzlebuilders. "Just because you're a kid, doesn't mean you don't have the power to make a big difference in the world," says Musso. "Becoming a Puzzlebuilder is an easy and fun way for everyone to help raise money for autism no matter what age you are. Many of my fans are young and I'm hoping every one of them will log onto www.autismspeaks.org/puzzle to join me in becoming a Puzzlebuilder."
