Health Maps Wales

Health Maps Wales is an interactive tool that can be used to explore a variety of health indicators grouped under broad categories, such as cancer, common procedures and causes of injury. The maps allow the user to explore data at their geographic area of choice (where available), to look at trends and to compare areas against a Wales comparison figure. Indicators are available at Middle Super Output Area (MSOA), Upper Super Output Area (USOA) and Unitary Authority (UA) level subject to rules of disclosure and small numbers. 

Getting Started

Please click the logo below to enter Health Maps Wales and to start selecting your analysis. A Help document is available on all pages, please take a couple of minutes to read through it to ensure you get the most out of the system. We welcome comments from users as to whether the analyses provided are appropriate or useful, and also general user experiences.

New Health Maps Wales Version and Data Update (Aug 4th 2010)

The new version of Health Maps Wales is now available. This new version provides a much improved look and feel, a keyword search facility and an option to login and become a member. Members will be added to the mailing list for updates and to gain access to the Custom Analysis feature where users can design their own reports based on the indicators and geographies available. 

The release will also include the following data additions:

• NCCHD Births and Immunisation data for 2009 (LHB and UA data only, small area updates will follow when 2009 small area populations are released in Oct/Nov 2010.)
• A Substance Misuse theme, which includes alcohol-related deaths (alcohol-attributable and alcohol-specific hospital admissions to follow shortly).
• A new indicator,  'Rural and Urban Classification of Wales' at LSOA and MSOA level.
• A Rural/Urban filter for use within the reports to allow users to compare areas with same degree of rurality.

System Requirements

To view interactive maps you may need to add support for Flash content to your Internet browser (Adobe Flash Player (ver.8 or higher)). You can test your browser support for Flash by clicking on the Adobe Flash version test page. If you need to install the free Adobe Flash Player 'plug-in' then you can download it from the Adobe web site. Maps are best viewed with a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024. To change your screen resolution, right-click on the desktop and then left click on Properties from the menu that appears. Click on the settings tab of the display properties dialogue box and use the slide bar under screen resolution to change the resolution.
